PRESIDENT SENT MESSAGE OF CONGRATULATIONS TO PREMIER OF CANADA ON COUNTRY’S NATIONAL HOLIDAY

President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan sent message of congratulations to Prime Minister of Canada Stephen Harper on the country’s national holiday - Day of Canada.

The President extended his heartfelt felicitations, expressing confidence that the friendly relations would serve welfare of both peoples.

President Ilham Aliyev wished Mr. Harper health, success in activity, and the people of Canada - tranquility and welfare.

DEPUTY FOREIGN MINISTER OF AZERBAIJAN VISITS CANADA

Visit of the Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Araz Azimov to Canada will give impulse to development of relations between Azerbaijan and Canada, commenting the working visit of Mr. Azimov to this country, ambassador of Azerbaijan to Canada Fakhraddin Gurbanov told AzerTAc correspondent:

During his 2-day visit to Canada, Mr. Azimov held discussions with his Canadian colleague Jim Wright and other high rank officials. The goal of visit is to hold with the Canadian officials consultations in military-political and security fields. In the course of meetings, the Embassy spokesman said, also is expected to focus on issues of combat against global terrorism and organized crime, situation on the South Caucasus, the Azerbaijan-Canada partnership in the frame of NATO, OSCE and other international organizations, as well as other questions representing mutual interest.

The parties emphasized necessity of mutual visits for activation of cooperation between two countries. On 27 March, Araz Azimov made a report at the Carleton University in Ottawa. On 28 March, he is expected to deliver a lecture at the Quebec University in Montreal. Both lectures are devoted to "Safety on the Caspian Region".

"This is the first visit of the Azeri delegation at such level to Canada", Ambassador Gurbanov said. At his words, the Canadian side is much interested in Azerbaijan. ?We ascertained a range of mutual interests?, he underlined.

The meeting with the Trade Counselor of the Embassy of Canada in Turkey

The meeting with the Trade Counselor of the Embassy of Canada to Ankara Mrs. Catherine Cosselin and the Second Secretary Mrs. Suranne Drisdelle was held in AEC office on 7th February, 2006. The president of the National Confederation of Entrepreneurs (Employers) Organizations of Azerbaijan Republic Mr. Alakbar Mammadov told about AEC activity, services for entrepreneurs, tripartite General Collective Agreements signed between the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan Republic, Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation and the National Confederation of Entrepreneurs (Employers) Organizations of Azerbaijan Republic, Partnership Agreements signed with central executive power structures, ILO projects. The participants of the meeting also discussed Azerbaijan-Canada economic relations, attractive spheres for investors, mutual cooperation capabilities and other matters.

Azerbaijan Parliament ratified the Convention between Canada and Azerbaijan for the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income and on capital, signed on September 7, 2004 in Baku.
