Canada-Azerbaijan
Interparliamentary Group Established
On November 22 on the Parliament Hill the Canada-Azerbaijan Interparliamentary Group was established. Senators and House of Commons members were invited by Liberal MP Yasmin Ratansi to attend the inauguration meeting. In her opening remarks Ms. Ratansi underlined the importance of interpaliamentary dialogue for bilateral political and trade relations. She called for more active involvement of Canadian business in Azerbaijan.
Ambassador of Azerbaijan Fakhraddin Gurbanov also attended
the event. In his speech Mr. Gurbanov expressed his appreciation to Senators and
MPs for their support and stressed that the cooperation between two parliaments
will help Azerbaijan to improve its legislative institution and to contribute
in the further development of Canada-Azerbaijan relationship. He said that the
Embassy and Azerbaijani community will work with the group to make it active
and productive. MPs adopted the constitution of the Group and elected executives.
So far, the group's membership is made up of 12 members of
parliament and four senators.
